Formwork and Scaffolding supplier PERI establishes another subsidiary in Africa, Tanzania
Tanzania was quickly identified as a key location for expansion in Southern Africa. The stable political landscape, a favourable geographic location and forecasted growth provide an optimum environment for the establishment of PERI Formwork and Scaffolding Ltd. in Dar es Salaam.
Tanzania offers excellent economic conditions for the introduction of PERI formwork and scaffolding products and services. Added to this is the opportunity that stems from Tanzania being the gateway to many land‑locked countries on the continent – ensuring supplies to these countries for future developments.
The PERI subsidiary in Tanzania
With a strong focus on growth and development in emerging markets, establishing a subsidiary in Dar es Salaam is further evidence of the international ambitions of PERI’s growth strategy. To celebrate this bold step into the region, PERI Tanzania hosted a launch event at their new premises in May 2016. This prestigious event at the new office and supply facility was attended by guests from the local area and some from neighbouring countries, as well as local and international institutions of the construction industry. The new location is the logistics and operations centre for the East Africa region, providing localised support to existing and potential customers on market-specific project matters.
PERI’s aim alongside introducing the latest formwork and scaffolding technology to the already well-established construction industry is to invest in and boost local skills and development. This remains a priority for one of the world’s leading companies in formwork and scaffolding.
Innovations and new technology
The recent launch of a new innovation – DUO Universal Formwork – is a true example of the firm’s awareness of the needs in developing countries. The durable, lightweight and flexible formwork system requires very little training and maintenance. DUO Formwork focuses on key functions and is extremely robust – without having a negative impact on quality. Uniquely, the system also requires very little plywood. Further key attributes are the simplicity and low cost of maintenance of this innovative system. The recyclable components, lower demand for timber, access to the latest technology in emerging markets, all set not only DUO, but also PERI, apart from its competitors.
Giving back
PERI has a strong value system, ensuring a positive impact on the local industry and community also in Tanzania. For example, at the launch, PERI identified and interviewed various final year engineering students for potential internships. Such future engineers are trained in the latest scaffolding and formwork technology, as well as cutting‑edge construction processes. PERI uses its expertise and experience gained from work and projects all over the world, to prepare the next generation of engineers for the challenges of the future. The firm also offers regular and customised training sessions on diverse themes relating to formwork and scaffolding for customers and other interested parties. As a newcomer to the East African construction market, PERI’s highest priority, however, is to look beyond the themes of technical innovation and sustainable solutions in this acceptance of social responsibility.
PERI international
With a turnover of EUR 1.3 billion in 2015, PERI is one of the world's largest manufacturers and suppliers of formwork and scaffolding systems. Central functions, development and production facilities have been located in Weissenhorn, in southern Germany, since the founding of the company in 1969. Through its 7,700 employees, over 60 subsidiaries and 120 logistics centres, PERI serves its customers worldwide with innovative system equipment and a comprehensive range of services related to formwork and scaffolding.
PERI’s powerful innovative strength, the high level of engineering services and high standards in materials and products ensure cost-effective, efficient and safe solutions for formwork and scaffolding projects of every size. All PERI products are manufactured, tested and certified according to internationally accepted standards. However, the PERI range of services goes far beyond equipment sales and rental, soon to be demonstrated in the Tanzanian market as well. More than 1,200 PERI engineers worldwide develop customised solutions for the daily challenges faced by contractors and engineers. By encompassing all processes relating to formwork and scaffolding technology, PERI ensures greater efficiency and synergies in satisfying its customers’ needs.
